Hello! My name is Agatha. Before joining the department of philosophy ( and the CPAS program) as a graduate student in the fall of 2023, I obtained my B.A.s in history of ideas and philosophy from William Jewell College.

Within ancient philosophy, my primary focuses are ethics, especially moral psychology, and metaphysics. With respect to ethics, I am interested in the impacts of friendship on the development of virtues (and vices!); a lot of my research on this subject draws on Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics and Plato's erotic dialogues. With respect to metaphysics, I am interested in the relationship between subjects and predicates and the viability of a teleological view of nature generally; most of my research here draws from Aristotle's Physics and Plato's Sophist. In a more frivolous vein, I enjoy reading non-philosophical texts in Greek -- my favorite so far has been Daphnis and Chloe.

Outside of ancient philosophy, I am also interested in feminist philosophy and the history and development of Christianity in western Europe, especially when compared with earlier Greek pagan tradition. In my spare time, I read a lot of romance novels, send memes to my best friend Benjamin, and knit. My pronouns are he/him.
